Removing Weeds/Planting FlowersAbout 30 kids from our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classes learned about the invasive plants that were crowding our shrubs and flowers in our flower bed in front of our school. They improved the flowerbeds by weeding these invasive species out of this area. It looked so much better when they were finished. Then, they planted new flowers around the school sign that made the sign look so much better.

Bird Feeders /Suet Cakes Feeders
Our Green School Kids Committee decided that WES needed more bird feeders for different kinds of birds. So, we used some of our money from recycling to purchase a variety of bird feeders and bird seed. Then we added them to the pond area in our courtyard. Students from Mrs. Hood's fourth grade monitor the feeders when they read in the courtyard and refill the bird feeders as often as needed. These pictures were taken right before 2019 Christmas vacation.

Boonsboro Green Fest - Kids Zone |
WES Green School Kids Club set up a stand at the 2019 Boonsboro Green Fest. We helped many many kids make bird feeders using toilet paper tubes or pinecones, peanut butter, bird seed, and cereal crumbs. We used yarn pieces to hang the feeders up and the kids took them home for their birds to eat. It was a fun experience that we will continue to attend!

No Mow Zone
WES has about 11 acres of no -mow zone/meadow. This is one place that we planted several trees in trees along the fence that were planted in 2014 and 2015 and several smaller trees are still standing. This area along the WES boundary line and Interstate 81. This has proved very beneficial for erosion and decreased pollution. Some of this area has since been mowed to be used for Cross Country but is still great for wildlife.
